    The Sr. Managing Director / Director, Medical Science plays a key role in Medical Affairs at Salix, taking overall responsibility for our products.  This includes overall leadership for the medical science liaison team, as well as operational responsibilities for data dissemination and medical strategy.

     

    The Sr. Managing Director / Director, Medical Science should have an understanding of areas related to disease states covered by the field based scientific team, including gastroenterology, diabetes, and addiction.  Further, the Sr. Managing Director / Director, Medical Science should have experience in the appropriate exchange of scientific information related to products, whether in clinical development, pre-launch, launch, or post-launch.

    • Working Conditions: up to 50% travel required, significant air travel is required.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide strategic medical management for gastroenterology, diabetes, and addiction.
    • Provide overall leadership for the field based medical affairs team.
    • Create and manage budget for the MSL team.
    • Manage key line functions (e.g., MSLs)
    • Foster enduring relationships with top scientific key opinion leaders.
    • Support rapid integration of new products and businesses.
    • Support R&D organization as needed (e.g., Phase IV, due diligence).
    • Support MSL team leads to build and maintain solid and credible relationships with the medical community on Salix’s behalf in both Academic and Community settings.
    • Follow all applicable policies and procedures. This includes, but is not limited to the
      • Policy on Medical Science Liaisons,
      • Policy on Professional Information Requests
      • Policy on Use of Off-Label Reprints
      • Policy on Product Promotion
      • Policy on Clinical Trials
      • Policy on Fee-For-Service Arrangements with U.S. Healthcare Professionals or Related Institutions and Organizations
      • Policy on the Submission, Approval and Administration of Fee-For-Service Arrangements
      • Corporate Integrity Agreement

    Qualifications

    • Advanced degree, PhD, PharmD, or MD in health care field from an accredited college or university.
    • Previous experience leading a large MSL field team a must
    • Abides by and affirms relevant policies and procedures.
    • Highly motivated self-starter with a positive attitude, possessing the initiative required to achieve desired goals both independently and within a team structure.
    • Demonstrated project management ability.
    • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
    • Strong relationship-building skills, particularly with the research community.
    • Strong administrative management skills.
    • Team-oriented with the ability work effectively with others.
