  • Overview

    The Plant Maintenance team provides electro-mechanical support for production machines and equipment.  The team is dedicated to keeping production moving with minimal downtime by troubleshooting and repairing equipment issues. This includes resolving mechanical and electrical problems and performing scheduled maintenance on equipment.  This position entails working as a member of a team while leading that team to perform and document troubleshooting, repairs, and preventative maintenance of high speed manufacturing, injection molding, packaging, and sterilizing equipment. Assists Plant Maintenance manager in carrying out the day-to-day operation and supervision of maintenance personnel.   Trains, directs and oversees maintenance personnel to accomplish established objectives.


    • Leads maintenance shift team to support Operations and Engineering in a cross-functional team setting to minimize machine downtime and improve line output.
    • Keeps in frequent communication with Operations to ensure machine issues are dealt with quickly and efficiently. 
      • This entails balancing personnel working on different technical issues across multiple machines or platforms as problems arise.  Lead technical root cause investigations for quality related issues with feedback to engineering and management.  Drive team to minimize machine downtime by keeping a constant vigilance on consistent machine stoppages and nuisance faults.
    • Directs the daily activities of Pegasus maintenance crew including:
      • Arrange shift and PM coverage with overtime, as required, according to overtime policy
      • Coordinate or lead technical/safety/procedural training as needed.
      • Determine best technical response to maximize reliability of complex automation (repair, replacement, rebuild)
      • Work with the Lead PM Technician to coordinate tasks and personnel to complete PMs in a timely manner.
    • As a leader of teams, the Group Leader will strive to build a strong team with clear and open communication, provide appropriate feedback and recognition to others, and work with team members to help them set and attain their development goals. 
    • The group leader will be looked upon to provide confidential written input for annual employee performance appraisals.
    • As a technical leader, the Group Leader will ideally be or become a technical expert across multiple areas or technologies.  
    • This is a working role, the Group Leader will be working alongside their team members to troubleshoot and bring the manufacturing lines back to a running state as safe and efficiently as possible, no matter how large or small the task is.

    Scope of Position:

    • Ability to work Bausch + Lomb twelve hour rotational shift schedule is required
      • Rotation is M/T - 6AM-6PM, W/Th - off, F/S/Su - 6PM-6AM, M/T - off, W/Th - 6AM-6PM, F/S/Su - off, two week pattern repeats but opposite day/nights.
    • Minimal travel to support equipment build/integration and/or training may be required.
    • Support of plant manufacturing equipment systems under the direction of the plant Maintenance Supervisor.



    • HS diploma required. 
    • Technical apprenticeship or Associates degree in related electrical or mechanical field preferred but job experience may be substituted for degree requirement. 

    Specialized Skills:

    • Knowledge of OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Act) requirements, basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook) preferred.


    • Minimum 10 years in technician role performing equipment repairs and preventative maintenance. 
    • Medical device or other regulated industry documentation experience beneficial. 
    • Attention to detail, excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment are essential.
    • Experience leading technical teams through resolution of problems highly desired.

    Special Skills:

    • Understanding cGMP and experience in clean room environment preferred.
    • Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and electrical prints required
    • Demonstrated problem solving and strong troubleshooting skills
    • PLC troubleshooting skills desirable
    • Programming/troubleshooting robots (SCARA, FANUC, Staubli, IAI) and servo motors desirable
    • Injection mold machine experience (electric and hydraulic) desirable
