  • Overview

    Provide plastic engineering product, process and tooling support for medical products.  Candidate will work with US sites and contract manufactures across our Pharma, Solutions, Surgical and other businesses. Supporting engineering activity for development, capacity expansion, continuity of supply and maintenance of business type projects.


    Plastics Engineering project support:

    • Guide identification and selection of plastic materials for ongoing development and material obsolescence.
    • Participate in the identification, selection and installation of primary and secondary processing equipment.
    • Support critique of part designs, guide appropriate dimensioning and select critical to function elements of design to drive robust Design for Manufacturability.
    • Participate in tool design reviews to ensure robust mechanical design, longevity of tooling and optimum molding performance.
    • Ability to trouble-shoot tooling and process issues with established platforms.
    • Engage on activities with external suppliers, molders, tool makers, and material suppliers.
    • Support tooling debug, design of experiments and process development with suppliers.
    • Support technology transfer of new products and processes.
    • Participate in process qualifications and validations with generation of appropriate documentation.
    • Project leadership and supplier management of US Engineering site driven activities.
    • Ability to drive projects remotely and travel to sites and suppliers (domestic travel ~1 week ever 6-8weeks; project driven)


    Education: BS in Plastics or Mechanical or Chemical engineering.


    Experience: Minimum 3 years of Plastics injection molding experience, preferably manufacturing based. The desired candidate has demonstrated skills in plastic components design, injection mold tooling expertise, tight tolerance process development and validation.  Project leadership and familiarity with FDA regulated products a plus. Blow molding experience a plus.


    Special Skills: Familiar with manufacturing environment. Strong troubleshooting and analytical capabilities. Experienced with Design for Manufacturing concepts, working knowledge of materials and injection molding fabrication methods. Practiced data analysis skills with Minitab or equivalent. Must possess strong communication and interactive skills, capable of working independently or on project teams as required. Strong documentation skills to work in a regulated environment.


    Specialized Training: Design software (SolidWorks or AutoCad) and Analysis software (Moldflow, etc) a plus. ISO-9000, GMP and Six sigma experience desired. Data analysis software experience desired (capability & trending analysis).
