  • Overview

    Conduct ocular surface biocompatibility models using cell-based assays and provide technical and supervisory expertise assessing new ophthalmic devices or pharmaceutical products in development


    Laboratory skills:

    • Extensive experience in tissue culture techniques with a variety of mammalian cell lines
    • Use established techniques and develop new methods to assess cell viability and metabolic activity of new contact lens care or pharmaceutical ingredients
    • Review current literature and contribute novel ideas to drive innovation and support preclinical safety evaluation of new ophthalmics
    • Proficient in experimental design, execution, data analysis and report writing
    • Knowledgeable in statistical analysis techniques and software
    • Effectively communicate results and research status to senior management team
    • Strong background in microscopy techniques
    • Experience in laboratory set up and maintenance according to departmental procedures and research needs

    Scope of Position:

    • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Contribute effectively in a cross-functional role across multiple disciplines
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team consisting of a diverse group of science professionals
    • Instruct junior level scientists on technical procedures and trouble-shooting experimental problems
    • Must be detail oriented and demonstrate excellent organizational skills
    • Perform all duties in a professional and efficient manner, while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to applicable ethics requirements
    • Work well within a fast-paced dynamic and team-oriented environment
    • Willingness to continually learn and adapt to changing priorities


    • PhD in Biological Sciences/3 years experience, MS Biological Sciences/6 years experience, or BS Biological Sciences/10 years experience
    • Strong background in cell-based assays to evaluate vision care formulations for contact lens wear and treatment for dry eye and ocular disease
    • Experience in medical device and pharmaceuticals development preferred
