  • Overview

    The Service Material Planner is responsible for planning, scheduling, coordinating, and monitoring of service material to meet or exceed all global Service demand and Inventory goals.


    • Coordinates with Manufacturing, Service Depot and Suppliers to Plan, schedule, coordinate and monitor products through the complete production cycle to meet actual and forecasted service demands and maintain safety stocks of service parts, Field Replaceable Units (FRUs) and Service Tooling
    • Fulfills purchase orders for Service material and service tooling. Verifies pricing and accuracy/correct part orders.
    • Works from service material plan to establish build schedules, capacity requirements and shop orders to ensure materials are provided according to schedules; coordinates with Materials, Manufacturing, Service, Suppliers and Quality groups as required.
    • Assists with the release and revisions to service material, FRU and tooling documentation as required
    • Manages, creates, and updates service material and tooling pricing in ERP and CRM system
    • Determines and manages potential shortages by analyzing build schedules, shortage reports, on hand inventory reports and supplier delivery information.
    • Works with Operations to resolve work order variances and determines/tracks root causes.
    • Works with Cost Accounting as required.
    • Acts as a backup to the Service Material Handler
    • Management of Third party repair
      • Responsible for end-to-end follow-up on repair status
      • Responsible for taking ownership of third-party repair process
      • Calls vendors as necessary to advise shipment status or to obtain shipment information
      • Responsible for receiving and setting up shipments to/from manufacturers
      • Liaison between Service and Product Support personnel and third-party manufacturers to solve issues and provide technical feedback to both parties regarding their repairs


    • Requires a minimum of a 2 year degree in a preferably in technical field or Business Administration or equivalent experience.
    • A minimum of 2 years Production Planning experience, particularly in the manufacture of instrumentation and/or medical devices including:
      • Knowledge and experience in the utilization of ERP systems and planning tools.
      • Knowledge and experience in Bill of Material structures and component specifications.
      • Inventory management knowledge to include knowledge of various inventory transactions.
    • Experience working within a rigorous quality system environment (ISO 13485, FDA cGMP/QSR).
    • Previous experience in a manufacturing and/or distribution environment strongly desired
    • Strong collaboration, team building, and development skills.
    • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both written and verbally
    • Strong MS Office skills.
    • Ability to work with and support employees of different backgrounds and experience levels
    • Experience with ERP systems.
    • APICS certification is preferred.


    Language and Verbal Skills

    Ability to read and interpret engineering specifications, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondences documents.   Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients and customers.  Ability to clearly and concisely convey project accomplishments, obstacles, issues, and project status.


    Math Skills

    Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.  Ability to use MS Excel to perform calculations and interpret project results/data. 


    Analytical and Reading Skills

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.  Ability to read technical and clinical literature and documents and extract important concepts.


    Physical Requirements

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to perform lifting tasks of up to 50 pounds for short durations. Duties of this job may involve standing and/or walking for extended periods of time. Duties also involve daily keyboard data entry. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.


    Work Environment

    Most work will be performed in an office and light manufacturing environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate
